Getting Around Gustavus

Taxis, car rental, bikes and walking will get you around our small system of roads (20 miles). Lodgings are spread throughout Gustavus, about 5 miles square, with the approach to the beach, river and airport centralizing most services and our city park. Hiking trails are accessible to the public and the paved flat road is bike paradise. An area map is available for your personal explorations at local businesses.

Be aware that there are currently no vehicle friendly campgrounds or services for recreational vehicles in Gustavus or Glacier Bay National Park. Gustavus has only two main roads that meet at ‘4-Corners,’ with less than 20 miles of paved roads.

The drive to Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is headquartered at Bartlett Cove about 10 miles by paved road from the main Gustavus dock or the airport.

Bartlett Cove is the site of a walk-in only campground, a large commercial lodge, restaurant and bar, kayak rentals and tours, and hiking trails. It is also the starting point for a 40-mile day cruise to see the glaciers in Glacier Bay, offered in the Summer only.
